The Protein and Monoclonal Antibodies Technit (UTPAM) based on INETI have been working on Health Biotechnology in collaboration with other national and international R&D institutions and private companies. UTPAM develops its scientific research based on scientific and technological skills in the field of Biochemistry, Applied Immunology, Molecular Biology, animal and plant cell culture in vivo and animal experimental models. Being transversally used, these scientific competences confer to the Unit the capacity to be applied on different scientific research areas.

As strategic lines the Unit has as guidelines to challenge on R&D knowledge relevant areas evaluated by external national and international funding sources; Human resources training; Networking activities; Internationalization and technologic transfer to companies.
The main research areas has been developed on Malaria, Trypanosomosis, Babesiosis, Besnoitiosis, HIV2 infection, Diagnostic products, protein expression in plant models and Biocompatibility of medical devices composites. Several students have being doing their University Diploma thesis, MsC and PhD thesis in the Unit as well other technologic formation under national (IEFP, PEPAP) and international (Leonardo da Vinci) programs. Several projects in collaboration with other R&D national and international institution have succeeded in the submission for research funding and they are the major source of Unit funding for research.
